Did you know that 98% of all water in our rivers is being extracted for human purposes? This begs the question if we really are doing what we can to ensure we are initiating water saving rituals into our every-day activities.
EcoCore Plumbing has taken this challenge seriously and aims to educate our clients with top water saving tips to use in their plumbing at home and at work. We offer a free water-saving device with every call out and we will also fit the devices for you.
So, what else can you do to save water?
Look into installing a Grey Water system:
Grey water is defined as “wastewater generated in households or office buildings from streams without fecal contamination, i.e. streams of water except for the wastewater from toilets. Sources of grey water may include; showers, baths, clothes washing machines or dish washers.” ** Water used for dishes could contain oil which may clog up systems, so this needs to be taken into consideration.
Grey water is generally safer to handle and easier to treat and reuse onsite for toilet flushing or gardens, provided the use of non-toxic soap and personal care products are not used. If you do use these products, you may not be able to irrigate your garden.

Keep your water pressure low:
At home, you can keep your water pressure as low as possible. If you ensure all your water outlets are fitted with low-flow taps and showerheads, this will help too.
Small, but smart tips:
There are a number of other things you can do to save water in your home; here are 5 quick and smart tips:
1. Turn the tap off when cleaning your teeth.
2. Use a bucket to fill your excess water in and then use it to flush your toilet.
3. Fix your leaks and report larger leaks to your municipality.
4. Shower instead of bathing.
5. Put a brick in your toilet cistern to reduce the amount of water being flushed.
